Hi there readers.  I hope your summer is off to a phenomenal start.  A few interesting stories have caught my fancy and I just had to share.  Happy Reading!

As you know or may have guessed, I'm not only a writer, but a reader as well.

The two go hand in hand and I cannot imagine one sans the other.  I've recently finished reading "Fanny Hill - Memoirs Of A Woman Of Pleasure" by John Cleland.  Quite frankly, it is probably the most licentious book I've ever read.  And perhaps that's not really shocking but coupled with the fact that it was written in 1749 - well, quelle surprise!  Essentially the book is about a young, poor lass of no connection, orphaned and thrust upon the world with barely two nickels to rub together.  Through events beyond her control she floats from one circumstance to another relying heavily on her wits, keen observation, and the utilization of all her feminine charms.  The author's story is even more compelling for known as his most notorious literary work, it is also by far, his most successful.  He wrote Fanny, while serving a sentence in debtor's prison!  Fanny is written in metrical, classic literature style, which is to say in part, the author routinely dedicates sentences, paragraphs and pages in order to articulate a single act.  And though I guffawed through some of the salacious, contrived scenes, I found it a pleasant and humorous novel indeed.

Onto other interests:

Girl Scouts open smartphone clinic for seniors  - Yes that's right and what a clever idea.  While pairing the young and old has always had mutual benefits, these girl scouts have come up with a solution to a growing issue, and not just here in the U.S.

My hope is that larger companies can use this blueprint to provide a service for a wide open market.

They Were Conned': How Reckless Loans Devastated a Generation of Taxi Drivers  - My sister brought this article to my attention and I must admit, I had absolutely no clue as to the amount of havoc these bankers, brokers, lawyers, investors, fleet owners and debt collectors were reeking upon taxi drivers with a dream of independence.

Their predatory practices have not only stripped drives and their families of their life savings but also their lives, as the piling debt has led many to suicide!

'Aladdin' star says a defect in his Tesla Model 3 led to his car wreck, and it comes from a problem area the company has known about for years -   Looks like Aladdin's going to have to employ that carpet a little longer!

A few of Tesla's models seemed to have come down with a condition known far and wide as whompy wheels!  Instead of fixing the problem permanently or implementing a recall, the company issued several technical service bulletins, or TSBs, warning mechanics of suspension issues with its Model S and X cars.  Something smells a little Musk-E in Cali and it doesn't take a Genie to recognize three wishes, a TSB and a token will get you on the subway because your new whip may not be up to the task!

Robert Downey Jr. has vowed to use robotics and AI to significantly clean up the Earth in the next decade - The last Avengers movie seemed more like the Tony Stark show and all of the other characters merely outlined the peripherals.  When I read this article, my initial reaction mirrored my movie experience.  In all fairness, allow me to be the first to congratulate Robert on his success as an actor and his personal transformation from his former life, less the hero and more Less Than Zero.

But is it possible to turn this statement into a workable plan?  "Between robotics and technology, we could probably clean up the planet significantly, if not entirely, within a decade."  Don't begrudge my cynical view so speedily.  I think grand statements are made frivolously and frequently.  This is a ginormous undertaking and I'm tired of applauding people for what they say,  I'll make it clap when I see what they can do.
